What you'll need
Since August 2024 the United States has required every dog entering the country to be a minimum of 6 months of age. There is no exemption for a purchased puppy. If the dog is younger than that on the day of travel, this trip cannot legally be completed, and no paperwork gets around it. Plan the placement date around the dog's date of birth. How the CDC form works.
- ✓ Dog is 6 months of age or older on the day of travel
- ✓ Dog appears healthy on arrival
- ✓ Microchip readable by a universal scanner
- ✓ CDC Dog Import Form receipt, valid six months and good for multiple entries
For a dog that has been only in Canada in the past 6 months, that receipt is the only documentation the United States requires federally. A rabies certificate and a veterinary health certificate are not federal requirements for that dog, though an airline or the destination state may ask for a health certificate on its own terms. Tell us the state and we will confirm before you book the vet.
- ✓ OmegaCHB customs broker ($428 CAD ($300 USD), in addition to the transport price)
