About this route
A coast-to-coast relay, and the longest lane we have run. This is not one driver crossing the continent. Paws Across America Transport carries the dogs out of southern California and across the United States, we meet them at Calais, Maine, and from there the border, the import paperwork, and the drive into Nova Scotia are ours. We ran it on 28 July 2026 with six rescue Dobermans bound for Halifax. If you are moving a dog from the US West Coast or the Southwest into Atlantic Canada, this is the shape the trip takes. Distance and hours below are the whole journey across both legs, spread over several days with overnight rest stops, not a single continuous drive.

This lane is run as a relay by two transporters. It is longer than any single driver should attempt in one push, so the trip is split at the border.

What you'll need
- ✓ Under 8 months: health certificate dated within 72 hours of the crossing. A CFIA rule, and the most common reason a crossing fails.
- ✓ 8 months and older: no health certificate required at all. Rabies alone covers it.
- ✓ Rabies vaccination certificate from 12 weeks of age
- ✓ Sale receipt, if the pet was newly purchased, showing the date, a description, the words "non breeding", and the price paid. GST is payable on that value.
- ✓ CFIA import paperwork coordinated via our broker
Canada sets no minimum age to enter and no import quarantine. The 6-month minimum and the CDC form are US entry rules and do not apply in this direction. Full guide for US breeders.
